Bembo MT Pro
The third project for my Typography class consisted of making a poster with only type for a specific font (which were limited to 12 options from our student font pack) as if we were selling it to other designers. The requirements were a 16x20 poster size, name of the font, name of the designer, a minimum of three colors, a brief history of the font included, sample of the weights, pricing, and contact info.

The previous two projects helped me decide on how to create this poster. Typographic anatomy helped me see what kind of letters I wanted to accentuate and the business card project helped me see how adding particular colors would change how the information was seen.

I started out with a grid system and made each element aligned, in the end a box shape formed with the white space, which I was pleased with. I moved to color and originally only had a dark red, white, and grey; however, a classmate made mention of taking an image that had good color schemes and using the eyedropper tool to get those same colors.

The idea behind this poster ties together with the maker himself, Francesco Griffo. He was a Venetian punch-cutter. I wanted to use the same color palette as that of those from Italian Renaissance art and I wanted to include the red because it fits so well with not only Italy, but the idea behind the gangster. I wanted to add humor to this poster and as I read the history of the font, I immediately thought of the slang term "OG", which stands for original gangster. I think people respond much better to humor and even more so for those who understand it as almost an inside joke. Bembo was the original font that Times New Roman and Garamond were later formed from.

Overall, I believe this project went well and since the due date for the poster was much quicker than the other projects, I was surprised to find that I could design something like this a little faster than my usual pace. I still feel like it could be improved, but I am happy with its current outcome.
